Dr. Peter Butterworth

Dr. Peter Butterworth, BSc, MD, CCFP
Family Physician
For more than two decades, Dr. Peter Butterworth has been a trusted and familiar face in Kelowna’s medical community. Since 1998, he has provided full-time family medical care while also lending his surgical skills to Kelowna General Hospital. His early years as a physician took him from the fast pace of Calgary’s 8th and 8th Acute Care Centre to the wide-ranging demands of rural Alberta, shaping the adaptable and compassionate clinician he is today.
Dr. Butterworth has never been one to simply “do-the-job” – he has helped shape how family medicine is delivered in the region. He has contributed to medical leadership and education, serving as Founding Board Member of the Division of Family Practice, participating in the CME Committee at Kelowna General Hospital, and holding several roles within the Department of Family Medicine.
His academic journey began at the University of British Columbia, where he earned a First Class BSc in Zoology, followed by medical training and residency in Calgary. These foundations continue to guide his thoughtful, evidence-informed approach to care.
When he’s not with patients, you’ll likely find Dr. Butterworth outdoors – carving turns on alpine or Nordic skis, exploring mountain bike trails, cycling Kelowna’s roads, playing tennis, or discovering new places around the world.
